It’s a London Thing

Why Don’t we do it in the Road?

Well, we told you that a splendid time was guaranteed for all. And so it proved last Saturday 8th August when Richard P led the Abbey Road 40th Anniversary Walk. There he is above, pictured with Fabs tribute act Sgt Pepper's Only Dart Board Band and a small section (!!!!) of the Beatlemaniacs who joined him. (Richard’s the one brandishing the famous album sleeve.) To see how the BBC covered this extra special London walk, click HERE.

Keep an eye on the LW Blog for more Beatles London Walk specials.

Parklife

A bit of sporting history, some natural history, a documentary snapshots of the royal family, the history of the Theme Park, a little classical music and clips from the lives of Churchill, Paxton and Logie Baird. A perfectly balanced TV schedule from BBC4 with a bit of something for everyone? Sounds like it. It’s also the blend that goes into the Palace of Wonders London Walk, taking place next Sunday 23rd August in Crystal Palace Park.

Meet your guide Adam and contrast the scene today with that pictured above, from the 1902 F.A Cup final between Sheffield United and Southampton, contested at Crystal Palace.

The Crystal Palace Walk meets at Crystal Palace train station at 2.30p.m Sunday 23rd August.

On BBC Radio This Week

Tune in to BBC Radio 7 this week for a fascinating interview with Michael Sellers entitled Dad Made Me Laugh – an intimate look at his relationship with his father, comedian, actor and Highgate resident the Peter Sellers. Thursday 20th August at 8.00a.m, 12.00p.m and 7.00p.m.

It’s a Sign

Thanks to the waggish LW Blog Follower (no name submitted) who sent us this photo (below) with the burning question: “I was planning to come along on a London Walk, but I was rather deterred by this sign by the escalator at the Underground station. Does this mean I have to use the stairs on the Underground if I don’t have a dog?”

Thanks for that… keep ‘em coming.
