It's A London Thing No.34: Pomp & Circumstance

It’s a London Thing is our Wednesday series in which we turn the spotlight on a unique aspect of London – perhaps a curious shop, sometimes an eccentric restaurant, a hidden place, book or oddity. The subject matter will be different every week. The running theme, however, will remain constant: you have to come to London to enjoy it. It’s A London Thing.

This week’s It’s A London Thing is inspired by a chat with a London Walker from Chicago who came along on the Old Kensington Village Walk last Thursday. When asked if he’d enjoyed the Royal Wedding – he’d been part of the crowd along The Mall – he replied thus:

“When it comes to prancing around in fantastic uniforms and riding horses and having parades and just making a great occasion out of something, the rest of the world might as well just stay in bed when you guys get going.”

The smile on his face suggested that, yes, he had enjoyed the Royal Wedding very much indeed.

Pageantry. It’s A London Thing
