When Saturday Comes

The world of football commemorates its heroes in the same, time-honoured fashion as all other realms of public life: statues.

In football, however, the current trend is to commemorate players while they are still around to enjoy it.

Here are a couple of examples from Arsenal’s home ground in North London…

Thierry Henry

Tony Adams

Henry, Arsenal's record goalscorer was moved to tears at the unveiling of his statue, back in 2011. England defensive legend Adams is captured celebrating a goal against Everton on the day that The Gunners won the league back in 1998. Both statues, and a third of legendary Arsenal manager of the 1930s Herbert Chapman, were commissioned to celebrate Arsenal's 125th anniversary.
