Close of Play: The Nightly Wimbledon Blog

For the duration of the world's greatest tennis tournament – this year from 24th June to the 7th July – CLOSE OF PLAY will bring you a Wimbledon fact of the day. (The London Nightly Photoblog will return on the 8th July…weather permitting!)

In 1887 Charlotte “Lottie” Dod won the Ladies’ singles at the tender age of 15. No slouch in the sporting arena in general, she was also a handy archer, hockey player and golfer. In addition to her five Wimbledon singles titles, Lottie took silver in archery at the first London Olympics in 1908.

A London Walk costs £9 – £7 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all London Walks can be found at bebofacebookyoutube
