Best of the London Blogs This Week

Cheap Seats

Life In the Cheap Seats is a straight-ahead review blog written by Webcowgirl who describes herself as a “theatre crazed American ex-pat living in London”. We’re lucky in this country to have a theatre critic on every important national newspaper. This gives us a range of opinion on any given production. Webcowgirl, however, is different from the formal critics in that she pays her way – and this has long been a point of debate in critical circles: does the theatre critic who gets free, best seats lack empathy with those of us who have to dig into our own pockets? Read this blog and compare.

Let’s Go Shopping

It’s a perennial fixture on all those “Best Blog” round-ups – and with good reason. London Shop Fronts pauses to consider the lilies of the London field where the rest of us may see only weeds. The sheer variety in the photographs here make this a veritable Roman candle of a picture blog. Our favourite? It has to be Sellfrifdges. They sell fridges. Here they are…

In Ancient (and Modern) Times…

And finally, one of our own! Kevin Flude, who guides for London Walks, curates an excellent blog called And Did Those Feet. It’s a wide-ranging cultural heritage resource that covers everything from City Livery Companies (there’s a new one – read about it HERE) to Roman London to political affairs in modern-day Southwark.

A London Walk costs £9 – £7 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all London Walks can be found at www.walks.com.
