Friday is Rock'n'Roll #London Day – Last Chance To See #NeverMindtheGentrification @mariabeadell

Friday is Rock'n'Roll London day. The Rock'n'Roll London Walk (video preview HERE) meets at Tottenham Court Road Station every Friday at 2pm.

Adam writes…

On Wednesday night, on the Rock'n'Roll London Pub Walk, our small group enjoyed the great privilege of our very own private viewing of this Denmark Street mural in the company of the artist Maria Beadell…

Beadell, a graduate of Camberwell School of Art (just like Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett) explains why she created the mural…

Most of the residents have been evicted, bar one who asked me to kindly paint an homage to the street in his flat block, on the staircase walls.

And here's Alistair, the final resident in question (beside his likeness in the mural)…

Maria continues…

I roped in collaborator artist  mORGANICo and we spent five weeks recreating a mix of music legends and local residents associated with the street on the walls.  All this will be torn down when the hotels, shops and 'digital streetscape' starts becoming a reality. I thought it was a terrible shame that such a Bohemian quarter should be lost forever in its present form, so I created the murals for the public to enjoy and savour as a small reminder of what this street once was.

We're getting access again today for one last look. We found out on Wednesday that Alistair is hoping to preserve at least some of the mural, and that the artists are keen to produce badges and perhaps t-shirts featuring the work. As soon as we hear more on that, we'll keep you posted, in the meantime Maria and mORGANICs websites are here…
