#London Walks Guides' Tips For Winter Walkers No.7: Yak Fat. Yup. Yak Fat.

Outside in all weathers, the London Walks guides know a thing or two about battling the cold weather.

In this short series we're sharing our winter weather tips with our lovely London Walkers, a hardy bunch who join us rain or sleet in the winter months.

Here's London Walks guide Steve making his Daily Constitutional debut with a few sage words on keeping warm on winter walks…

For warmth on a freezing day / night I'd recommend:

1) Yak Fat rubbed all over the body and a layer of lard on the face (avoid naked flames and moths)

2) Smoking a pipe - a warming briar is perfect for a cold night giving the guide an air of maturity & knowledge.

The smoke is also a perfect trail for the group to follow and in emergencies can be used as a coded distress call to another guide within a half mile radius.

3) I have used stilts for years thus avoiding contact with the icy pavements. I am 4 feet 2 inches.

Hope this helps

Steve

Steve. Hmmm. Steve. When you see him from a distance you think he's a roadie for a heavy metal band. And then he starts guiding and it's ka-boom: he's Jumping Jack Flash. Which is by way of saying, all that business about him being London Walks' fizziest guide - I'll let you in on a secret - that's a piece of English understatement. Anything else? Yes, lots. He's a dashing actor, a playwright, a song writer, and a musician. And, most important of all, the father of wee twin lads!

A London Walk costs £10 – £8 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all London Walks can be found at www.walks.com.
